Von einem schweren Bootsunglück mit vielen Toten nahe der Provinzhauptstadt Mbandaka in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo berichten die Partner*innen des Kirchenkreises Dortmund. Mehr als 50 Menschen sind bei dem Bootsunglück ums Leben gekommen, mehr als 100 werden noch vermisst. Belinda Mosambay, Vorsitzende der Partnerschaft zwischen dem Kirchenkreis Bolenge und dem Kirchenkreis Dortmund, berichtet, dass unter den Passagieren auch zehn Studierende waren, die gerade erst ihr Studium abgeschlossen und auf dem Weg in ihre Heimatdörfer waren. Unter den Opfern befinden sich mehrere Menschen aus dem Kirchenkreis Ingende. Dorthin gibt es Partnerschaften aus der Evangelischen Kirche im Rheinland.

today, we ask you again to join us with your prayers. The UEM Africa Department received the following sad news from Equateur Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo:
The main transport means in this region is a boat on Congo River. Sadly, a deadly boat accident happened in the night of Sunday, 15th October 2023. It is reported the boat that capsized near the town of Mbandaka, not far from the CDCC headquarters. The boat was overturned and swamped with water.
It is estimated 30 dead, 167 missing and 189 survivors following the boat accident on the Congo River. Many families are mourning the death and the loss of their loved ones.
Please keep in thoughts and prayers many families of our sisters and brothers of UEM members, the Community of Disciples of Christ in the Congo (CDCC) and the Association of Evangelical Churches of the Lulonga River (CADELU), from the Equateur Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
